Street Art Flash Mob in Rome

ASN-Italy organized a flash mob, in Via del Corso one of the central streets of Rome.

25 years ago, on January 20,1990 Soviet troops stormed Baku, the capital of then Azerbaijan Soviet Republic with the intent to save Soviet regime in the country and to suppress independence movement. The unarmed pro-independence Azerbaijanians on the streets of Baku were targeted by Soviet artillery which left more than 200 dead, at least 700 injured. At its 25th Anniversary, 20 January, 2015 1win Azerbaijan Student Network’s Italy branch commemorated the bloody night which mired in the memories of Azerbaijanians as “Black January”.

The network members organized a flash mob, in Via del Corso one of the central streets of Rome. In the course of gathering several pictures portraying the bloody event were drawn on the street in violin accompaniment. According to Ahmad Ahmadov, one of the organizers, the aim of the flash-mob was to draw the attention of passers-by to raise awareness to that we must protect innocent people, prevent future atrocities, and remember those who have suffered. The flash mob proceeded with handing-out of flyers and booklets containing information and images of “Black January”
