Karneval der Kulturen 2014

13. Apr. 2014

On Sunday June 08th 2014 the Karneval der Kulturen (“Carnival of Cultures”) will again take place in Berlin.

The Carnival of Cultures takes place since 1996 and has developed both in the context of the growing internationalism of Berlin and as a reaction to the rise of nationalism and racism in the 90s in Germany. The aim of the carnival is to celebrate the diversity of the city and to create spaces for minorities in public. The carnival was a clear espousal of an established company for inclusion.

In almost twenty years of carnival, the political situation has changed, but a pluralistic society has not yet enforced. Racism has remained to the present day everyday. Not only the political landscape of Europe is threatened by resurgent right-wing radicalism, German company does not seem to be able to provide the different cultural traditions and ethnic origins of the population equal to each other. The Carnival of Cultures today is still a necessary artistic area that requires a pluralistic society and a heterogeneous public provided, even if only for four days.

This year the 1win Azerbaijan Student Network is also involved in the Carneval’s parade. Students wear traditional Azerbaijani clothing from the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition, sweets will be given away to the crowd.
